Artist Bio

Wendy Wooding grew up in a small coastal town in southern Maine. After graduating from college, she headed West seeking adventure. She lived for a short time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but the mountains and beautiful light in Taos, New Mexico attracted her where she lived for sixteen years. Since Taos is such an artist's mecca, art was always an influence. Wendy took classes in watercolors, pottery, silversmithing and many others. The mountains provided endless adventures where she worked as a ski instructor during the winter months. After getting married and the birth of her two boys, Wendy and her new family moved to Boise, Idaho.

When her youngest son started school, Wendy took a glass fusing class at a local studio. She fell in love with the medium and has been creating glass art ever since. The play of colors and the way light interacts with the medium keeps her inspired. Her work has been described as "fun, spirited and colorful". Wendy uses glass in a variety of forms now available to the glass artist (from sheet to crushed to powdered). By designing her own glass elements in advance, Wendy cuts and assembles these designs into one of a kind works of art. Once the design is assembled cold, it is fused in a digital glass kiln up to temperatures of 1500 degrees. Quite often a piece is fired up to four times to get the look she is after.

When not in her studio, Wendy can be found seeking inspiration while biking, hiking or skiing in the beautiful foothills near her home in Boise, Idaho.
